Justin Bieber is Forbes‘ Third Most Powerful Celebrity

The Heretic’s Comment: He’s only been on the celebrity scene for a couple years, but he’s already made it huge. In fact, according to Forbes, the only two celebrities bigger than him are Lady Gaga and Oprah.

So, how exactly does one land on the Forbes Celeb 100 List? Well, according to Forbes, it’s “a combination of earnings, press and social media reach.” So, it certainly makes sense why Lady Gaga landed in the top spot this year. She made $90 million, has 32 million Facebook fans, and has 10 million Twitter followers. Lady Gaga actually toppled Oprah from her top spot, throwing Oprah into second place. The famous talk show host made $290 million.

And then there’s Justin Bieber. This 17-year-old wonder boy, earned $53 million has fans who would do just about anything for him, and is amazing when it comes to managing his social media.

The Heretic’s Comment: Another example proving out the argument that having a “Major Label” attached to a Single or Album simply no longer translates into guaranteed consumer interests and/or sales (even in the case of a celebrity artist like Jennifer Lopez who enjoys an international brand name).

In my opinion, the most relevant sentence in this Article (toward the interest of Independent Artists/Bands/Songwriters) is to consider the following:

“Albums by established names like Carey, lead Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, and the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am have all been put into perpetual turnaround in recent years, due to soft demand for lead singles. But newer artists like Ke$ha and Lady GaGa have thrived with seemingly leaner budgets and marketing strategies that depend on forging connections with fans via the Internet just as much as on exploiting the top-down nature of celebrity culture.

Closing thoughts:

You don’t need a Major Conglomerate in order to forge connections with Fans via the Internet!!!!!

Cut out the Middle Man….
